So Claudia has been growing her hair out for a long time she has wanted to donate to locks-of-love so she has been waiting for it to grow long enough that she could cut it and still have some hair left. After her spring quarter ended she finally decided it had grown enough and went and they cut off 12 inches. This is how much she had left. She was a little sad to have all that hair gone but she felt good about helping someone else. It has been a little strange for me to get used to. This is the shortest that I have ever seen Claudia's hair.

So this weekend we went to San Francisco just to get away and spend some time together. Claudia is on spring break so I took a few days off and we drove up the coast first to Santa Barbara then to San Francisco before coming back on Sunday. We had a great time and it was nice to relax and recharge.

San Francisco is a beautiful city and the weather could not have been nicer for our visit.

We took a little day trip to Alcatraz it was kind of cool. I must be kind of a nerd but I think historical places are fun to visit and learn about. Some of the stories and just standing in some places kind of gives you chills. To think of some the horrors and the stories of the men that were imprisoned here really takes you to a different place.

Look Mom I finally did it!! I don't know if you've heard my german pancake fiasco, but here is the jist of it. I LOVE german pancakes and I have tried to make them many times. Every single time they come out all flat and dense. Mom and Dad came down and she even helped and they still came out flat and dense. I couldn't figure it out and tried modifying the recipe, the cook time, the temp. I thought maybe it was just the altitude. Well I tried again fully thinking they would be flat and dense AGAIN. But guess what they came out just right!!. The only problem is that I don't remember doing anything different. So maybe it was just a fluke hopefully the next time it works out as well as this one. I kept telling Claudia how good german pancakes were and everytime I tried to show it didn't work out so well. Maybe now she will believe me.

We decided to go for a walk one evening and stopped by the temple grounds. Green grass and palm trees with christmas lights oh winter in southern California.

How To Salsa...

Do to popular demand here is the recipe for the fresh salsa we made during the reunion in June.

4 ripe tomatoes
1 red onion
1-2 jalapenos
1/2 bunch of cilantro
1-2 limes

Quarter the tomatoes and dice the onion. Saute with about 1 tsp of vegatable oil for about one minute add cleaned and washed jalapenos take out seeds to lessen spicyness. Add more jalapenos if desired. Saute mixture for another 1-2 minutes add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to saute pan. Pour contents of pan into blender and add diced cilantro and juice from limes and just a dash of salt and pepper. Blend to desired consistency. Don't overblend. Put in refridgerator for at least 30 minutes to cool. Serve cool.

Don't know how the shelf life is on this salsa the most we have had it around is a couple days. This makes probably about 2-3 cups of salsa so add or modify as desired.

If you want a fun twist add a diced mango after blending. Makes an interesting sweet addition.

Our new place

We justed moved this weekend. It was a big job and we're glad it is done. I took a couple days off work to help get organized and set-up. Claudia started classes on Monday so we had to get stuff done. Our new place is less than two blocks from the San Diego temple.

One of the benefits to living so close to campus is that Claudia doesn't have to drive to school, and more importantly doesn't have to look for parking. This is the UCSD bus that drops her right in front of the house.

Mom & Dad in California

Mom and Dad came to California to visit for a week the beginning of April. It was great to have them here. We went down to San Diego and visited the beach. We had a good time.

We also took a tour on the USS Midway a decommissioned aircraft carrier in San Diego. We all took a seat in the pilot's seat.

Finally the trouble makers are locked up! We really weren't sad but were told to look upset to be behind bars.

Who said "I love you" first? I did, but he return it right away

Who sings better? Jeff does, he like to make up songs about everything

Who is smarter? Depends on the subject. He would say I am cause I like to study math & science but he is full of knowledge.

Whose temper is worse? Jeff's is, it is rare that he loses it but when he does it sometimes scares me. He really is working on that.

Who does the laundry? We both do, but he doesn't like to put them away very much

Who does the dishes? Depends on who cooks. We have an unwritten rule that the person that cooks doesn't do dishes.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do, just because the door is closer to his side. It is kind of a security thing I like him to be closer to the door.

Who pays the bills? He does

Who mows the lawn? mow the lawn...what is that? We live in California the gardener does duh. j/k We don't have a lawn right now.

Who cooks dinner? He does generaly, he likes to cook breakfast too.

Who drives when you are together? He does, I am a more cautious driver and it drives him crazy

Who is more stubborn? We're probably about the same.

Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? I think that I am, generally it's because we have some miscommunication.

Whose parents do you see the most? My mom for sure because she lives with us.

Who proposed? He did, one year to the day after we started going out. He took me to the beach and we went for a walk. It was the best gift he could have given me.

Who has more friends? I do, Jeff is really bad at returning phone calls.

Who has more siblings? He does

Who wears the pants? He does most of the time one of my favorite quotes "..the man is the head of the family and the woman is the neck, but she can turn the head any way she wants."

Trip to Peru

By the pool at the beach house. In Peru during the summer everyone goes to the beach on the weekends. This is Carla & Jorge's summer house.
Us at the beach. I don't know why but we seem to take a lot of pictures at dusk or when it is dark...hmm we should think about that.

We saw a white whale on the beach in Peru. Oh wait that's just me! The sand is much finer and softer than in California and the water is cold, cold, cold. If you walk out just off shore there are so many "mooey mooeys" or sandcrabs that you can feel the sand move under your feet. Very weird feeling.

Hard to see but we are in the central part of the city in the "Plaza de Armas" This is the very center of Lima and behind us is the "Peruvian White House" where their president lives. It is close enough to the street that you could walk up and knock on the door. Somehow I think that the men in the tanks sitting on the street corners might have something to say if you did however. Plaza de Armas in Latin American cities are the main square. There is always a giant cathedral adjacent to the plaza generally it is were the governor's or "mayors" residence is. In the case of Lima both the President and Governor have residences here and the cathedral is off to one side. I regret that our pictures here didn't turn out better but it was getting dark and it is hard to take pictures of landscapes and giant buildings in the dark.

Also in the Plaza de Armas...I have no idea who those kids are they just kind of sat down in our picture. It was a weekend day and there were literally hundreds of people packed into this little square. We had to have people stand and block a section of walkway for this picture and had to retake about five times cause a head would appear in the picture. Also not visible is a statue and a fountain behind us

This was Claudia's first time ever carving a pumpkin. She really enjoyed it. Unfortunetly I am used to cold weather Idaho so we carved them kind of early. Well it was unusually hot and humid in Southern California our pumpkins were rotten within 48 hours. Well before halloween. Oh well. We had fun anyway.
